Mindfulness Exercise: To My Future Self

Earlier this week, I started a new intensive DBT group to add structure to my schedule and learn new skills. We started with a mindfulness exercise, writing a letter to our future self, a letter from wise mind to emotion mind. Here's what I wrote:
Dear Eli,
Things suck right now and dysregulation is kicking you in the butt. I know you feel like the world is caving in and there's no light at the end of the tunnel. I know you don't care about the fact that you might feel better in a few days' time or in the morning because you think the lows outweigh the highs. Be kind to yourself. Take it easy and just go to sleep early. Or play Overcooked. Or look at furniture inspo on Pinterest. You've been here more times than you can count, which is sad and frustrating, but it also measn you've made it to the other side more times than you are acknowledging. Don't give up.
